Clinical signs and symptoms associated with DIC include but are not limited to:
- Extensive ecchymosis
- Petechiae
- Hemorrhage
- Headaches, speech changes, paralysis, dizziness, and trouble speaking and understanding (if blood clots form in the vessels of the brain)
- Pain, redness, warmth, and swelling in the lower leg (if blood clots form in the deep veins of the leg)
- Chest pain and shortness of breath (if blood clots form in the vessels of the lungs or heart)
- Heart attack and/or lung and kidney complications (if blood clots lodge in the heart, lungs, or kidneys)
- Ultimately, organ failure can occur
