Signs Associated With Thrombocytopenia

If a platelet count is less than 50 x 109/L, patients may experience symptoms including bruising, ecchymosis, petechiae, and purpura. Petechiae are small pinpoint hemorrhages (circled in red on the image) and purpura are larger purplish skin leaks (circled in blue on the image). Epistaxis may also be reported as well as gingival (gum) bleeding.
Bleeding into the central nervous system may occur if the platelet count falls below 10 x 109/L.
