Fatty Tissue/Brain Tissue Processing

Table 4 is a fatty/brain processing protocol with a closed-system processor using standard processing reagents and pressure/vacuum. The tissue has been mostly fixed before processing. Notice how much more time fatty and brain tissue require in each reagent. Typically, fatty tissue and brain tissue require approximately 4 or 5 hours more processing time than routine surgicals, primarily due to the increased water content of these tissue types. Fatty tissue processed on a routine processing protocol may need reprocessing if the tissue is mushy or greasy. Brain tissue processed on a routine processing protocol may not section properly and have sections that explode in the waterbath.
