With the introduction of closed-chamber tissue processors came the ability to control pressure, vacuum, and mixing cycles. Such controls allow the reagents to infiltrate the tissue more rapidly and consistently. When using such controls for processing biopsies, caution should be taken since delicate tissue may become too hard and friable.
