Benign Hyperplastic Conditions

The most common benign (non-cancerous) hyperplastic conditions of the thyroid are:
Thyroiditis (non-autoimmune)
  • Inflammation of the thyroid
    • Infection
    • Postpartum
  • Gross enlargement of the entire thyroid or just one lobe
  • Hyperfunctioning thyroid nodules
    • Toxic adenoma
    • Toxic multinodular goiter
