The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting human life and property from fire. The NFPA has designated classes of fire based on the type of material that is fueling the fire. Fires that involve electricity and electrically energized equipment are designated as class C fires.
Types of fire extinguishers used to extinguish a class C fire: - Carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguisher
- General purpose, pressurized dry chemical ABC extinguisher
Important comments:- NEVER use water on a class C fire since this will only increase the hazard.
- CO2 may be preferred because it does not leave a corrosive residue.
- CO2 extinguishers can become extremely cold and cause cold burns if improperly handled.
