Do not attempt to extinguish a fire yourself unless all of the following are TRUE:
- You are trained in the use of a fire extinguisher, and the proper extinguisher is in the immediate vicinity
- The fire alarm has been pulled, and personnel have been evacuated from the area of the fire
- The fire is small, contained, and NOT spreading beyond the point of origin
- The exit is clear, and you can fight the fire with your back to the exit
- You can avoid smoke
If these conditions are not all met, do NOT fight the fire yourself. Pull the fire alarm and leave the area.
