Categories of Albuminuria

Below are the definitions of albuminuria categories used to assess CKD in random (or spot) samples (Inker, 2014):
< 30 mg/g......................................Normal/Mild Increase
30 - 300 mg/g................................Moderate Increase
> 300 mg/g....................................Severe Increase
In the context of a 24-hour urine collection, the same criteria apply, replacing the units with mg/24h. It is important to note that these criteria are not definitive for any given "stage". Elevations must be confirmed more than once over a 3-month period to be considered truly elevated.
The spectrum of observed disease varies continuously with the ratio: the higher the value (regardless of category), the worse the prognosis.
