Step 5: Implementation

Once you have endorsements and the needed support to implement your proposed change, the next step is implementation. The key to any new or revised process is ensuring staff know the change and understand the details and rationale. Communication at all staff levels is essential. Phlebotomists, clinicians, technicians, scientists, and patients may need to be educated about the new process.
Whenever there is a significant change, some resistance is expected. Be aware that the resistance is usually directly proportional to the lack of communication, so communicate early and effectively.
