Hemostasis is a highly automated aspect of the clinical laboratory that continues to evolve with the development of novel therapies to treat both inherited and acquired hemostatic disorders. The laboratory professional may find themselves conducting new coagulation assays related to these novel therapies without understanding the drugs themselves.
This course will reintroduce older pharmacologic therapies as well as introduce new therapies. The course will begin with a review of hemostasis physiology, continue with an overview of antiplatelet and anticoagulant pharmacology as it stands today, and end with a review of coagulation assays that may be seen in the clinical laboratory.
