The panel of drugs selected for testing must take into consideration a number of factors:
- Laboratory performing the testing
- Number of drugs that can practically be tested
- Infection control requirements
- Drugs that are available in formularies
- Susceptibility patterns exhibited locally (may be documented in the form of an antibiogram)
- Consideration of the body site of the infection and whether the drug is an appropriate therapy
