Morphology of the Bone Marrow Aspirate Smear, continued

Pseudo-Gaucher cells are macrophages commonly seen in CML and are derived from the neoplastic clone. True Gaucher cells are found in patients with Gaucher disease, a genetic lysosomal storage disorder caused by a deficiency in the enzyme glucocerebrosidase. Unlike Gaucher disease, pseudo-Gaucher cells are a secondary phenomenon resulting from increased cellular turnover and lipid release rather than a primary enzymatic defect.
The bone marrow in the chronic phase may show moderate to increased reticulin fibrosis.
