Counting chambers and slides designed specifically for sperm counting may not require dilution of the specimen and may not require duplicate counts. Sperm-specific counting chambers include:
- Makler® An undiluted sample is placed on the chamber and covered with the coverglass. The manufacturer states that the number of sperm counted in any strip of 10 squares on the counting chamber indicates the sperm concentration in millions/mL.
- CellVu® Two sides of a special slide are loaded with a drop of undiluted semen. Coverslips with special grids are placed on top of the sperm according to the manufacturer's directions. Sperm on both sides are counted.
- MicroCell™ has two chambers on a single, disposable slide. A special eyepiece with a grid is needed for counting.
