In addition to the general classification rules on the previous page:8,9
- Use Valley fever - do not capitalize fever; do not use Valley Fever when referencing coccidioidomycosis
- The same rule applies whenever disease-associated names are used.
Example:
- Valley fever
- coccidioidomycosis (lowercase when writing about the disease)
- coccidioides (lowercase when writing about the general fungal infection)
- Coccidioides immitis when referencing the genus and species
