As stated previously, one cause of reactive monocytosis is the resolution of an apparent bacterial infection, as in this case.
However, other causes should be noted, including the following:
Transient Causes:
- Acute infections
- Exercise-induced
- Myocardial infarction (heart attack)
- Stress-induced
- Medication-induced
- Splenectomy
Persistent Causes:
- Chronic infections
- Tuberculosis
- Medication-induced
- Various rheumatologic conditions
