Most tickborne infections are reported during April through September. This is due to the fact that ticks and people are most active during this time. The list of tickborne diseases is long and growing.
Most share the same clinical pictures:
- Fever
- Headache
- Chills
- Malaise
- Myalgia
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and/or loss of appetite
They can be characterized by the type of organism causing the infection:
- Bacterial diseases:
- Ehrlichiosis
- Anaplasmosis
- Lyme disease
- Tularemia
- Tickborne relapsing fever
- Rocky Mountain spotted fever
- Rickettsia parkerii and 364D
- Borrelia miyamotoi
- Viral diseases:
- Colorado tick fever
- Powassan encephalitis
- Heartland virus
- Tickborne encephalitis
- Parasitic diseases:
- Other
- Southern tick-associated rash illness
- Tick paralysis
