ATRT is a highly malignant brain tumor with a poor prognosis that is genetically related to the malignant rhabdoid tumor of the kidney.
Approximately 30% of these patients will have an intracranial extension of their tumor at diagnosis with tumor cells present in the cerebrospinal fluid.
These tumor cells are usually found in small clusters and clumps and have highly dysmorphic nuclei with prominent nucleoli.
