Florida Admin. Code Ann. r 64B3-7.003 concerning licensure examination was repealed in 2008. Consequently, the Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel no longer administers Florida licensure examinations. The Board approves examinations administered by national certifying agencies and accepts the results. There are several different agencies whose examinations have received Board approval. The most common agencies are the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), and the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB). The Board reviewed each agency's requirements and found that they were equal to, or more stringent than, the Florida Board’s requirements. Passing an agency’s examination does not guarantee acceptance for licensure in Florida. Applicants must also meet the education and training requirements.
Once an individual passes a national certifying examination, the appropriate professional certification is awarded. The various professional certifications are referenced in the requirements for licensure categories and levels in Chapter 64B3-5 of the F.A.C.
