All applicants for the technician level in Microbiology, Serology/Immunology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology and Immunohematology must
- Complete a Board approved course in medical errors
- Complete a Board approved course in HIV/AIDS
- Pass a national certifying exam approved by the Board at the technician level
In addition, at least one of the following requirements must be met:
- Complete an approved medical lab technology training program at the technician level
- High school or equivalency diploma + five years lab experience within ten years before application
- Associate degree + four years of lab experience within ten years before application
- Bachelor's degree + three years of lab experience within ten years before application
Applicants for the technician level for the five categories above are licensed as generalists only. Other specialty categories are available for technician-level licenses. Consult 64B3 for specific category(ies) requirements.
