Technical Supervisor Qualifications

The technical supervisor is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the high complexity laboratory. This includes but is not limited to the selection of test methods (may be in conjunction with the laboratory director), establishing performance criteria for all methods and oversight of test performance, as well as verification of test performance upon inception of the method and during the utilization of the method in the laboratory. Additional responsibilities include oversight of quality control for the laboratory and resolution of technical problems, as well as enrollment in an approved proficiency testing program for all appropriate testing. The technical supervisor ensures that all personnel are trained and assessed for competency at appropriate intervals for all test methods.

1. MD, DO, or DPM and possess a current license to practice in the state in which the laboratory is located AND One year of laboratory training and experience in the specialty of high complexity testing in areas of laboratory responsibility. (Microbiology requires an additional minimum of 6 months in the subspecialty of service).
2. OR doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science with one year of laboratory training and experience in high complexity areas of laboratory responsibility.
3. OR master's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science with two years of laboratory training and experience in high complexity areas of laboratory responsibility.
4. OR bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science with four years of laboratory training and experience in high complexity areas of laboratory responsibility.
