Medical Mushroom Supplements

There are numerous mushroom supplements on the market claiming health benefits such as immune support, anti-tumor action, stabilization of blood sugar, improvement of skin quality, plus support of mental clarity and concentration just to name a few. For centuries, mushrooms have been used the world over for medicinal purposes. While limited research done to-date does suggest possible medicinal utility, caution is in order. Research study factors such as small sample size, lack of replication, mushroom variability, and problematic statistical methods make it difficult to evaluate supplement claims. It is important to remember that some herbs and nutraceuticals could affect laboratory tests. The interaction of mushrooms and other herbal supplements with prescription medications is poorly understood and in need of investigation.
