Treatment - Group 4—Muscarine

Most patients presenting with muscarine poisoning can be treated without medication. If emesis has already occurred, further emesis and lavage should not be undertaken unless there is suspicion of mixed ingestion. The administration of activated charcoal slurry is not recommended since adsorption of the toxin to activated charcoal has not been demonstrated. Atropine should be given in severe cases where bradycardia, excessive salivation, and sweating are present. A few deaths have been reported with muscarine toxicity but in most cases, recovery occurs within 6 to 24 hours.
