Histologic Features of the Pituitary Gland

As can be seen in these images, the anterior pituitary has histologic features that are associated with production and secretion of hormones, while the posterior pituitary is primarily bundles of nerve cell axons.

The lower left segment of this image represents a tissue section of the anterior pituitary, while the lighter lavender colored area in the upper right corresponds to the posterior pituitary.
