Health Care Worker (HCW) Tuberculosis Screening

All HCWs should receive baseline TB screening upon hire, using either the two-step skin test or blood test.
Annual screening varies depending on the determined facility risk level and setting risk.
  • In low-risk settings, screening is not necessary unless an exposure occurs.
  • In medium-risk settings, all HCWS are screened for symptoms, and HCWs with negative baseline results are tested.
  • In potential ongoing transmission settings, HCWs receive testing every 8-10 weeks until lapses are corrected.
