Variation in the Shape of Bacilli

Bacilli may vary in size and shape. Some appear long and thin, while others may appear more oval. Coccobacilli are very short rods. In addition, the ends of rod-shaped organisms can be rounded, squared off, tapered, or sharply pointed.
