Urobilinogen Reaction

The Multistix test for urobilinogen is based on the Ehrlich aldehyde reaction. P-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (Ehrlich reagent) in an acid medium with a color enhancer reacts with urobilinogen to form a pink-red color.
Chemstrip uses a diazo reaction, where urobilinogen reacts with a diazonium salt in an acid medium to produce colors ranging from white to pink.
The urine reagent strip reactivity increases with increasing temperature. Testing should be performed at room temperature.
A freshly voided sample should be tested to ensure optimal results.
