Nitrite Reaction

When present, nitrite reacts with p-arsanilic acid or sulfanilamide in the reagent pad to produce a diazonium salt. The diazonium salt then combines with tetrahydrobenzoquinoline compounds to produce a pink color.
This reaction is commonly known as the Greiss reaction.
