Data Management

The data management department is staffed by health professionals who manage the laboratory information system (LIS). The LIS is the computer software that handles all patient data, including specimen collection logs, lab orders, and records of all laboratory results. The LIS is interfaced with laboratory analyzers, the hospital information system (HIS), and other external information systems as needed.
After test results from the laboratory analyzers are verified, they are released to the LIS, which delivers the results to the patient's electronic medical record (EMR). From there, the patient's care team can access the results and determine patient treatment.
