The following are the results of Type and Screen testing performed on a recipient's sample submitted with orders to transfuse two units of packed red blood cells. The patient has end-stage renal disease and receives dialysis treatments three days per week. She has received an average of 3-4 units of packed red cells per month for the past year.
A review of her records with the transfusion service indicates that she is A Positive with negative antibody screens throughout her transfusion history. She is 65 years old and has two grown children. She had two miscarriages during her child-bearing years (para 2, gravida 4).
