La Crosse Virus (LACV)

The virus that causes La Crosse encephalitis is a single-stranded enveloped RNA virus in the Bunyaviridae family. It is transmitted by the mosquito, Aedes triseriatus (the Eastern tree hole mosquito). This mosquito is an aggressive daytime biter.
The lifecycle occurs near deciduous forests between the mosquito and small mammals, such as squirrels and chipmunks.
