Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Uses and Considerations

Immunohistochemistry (IHC) techniques are used by laboratories to assist pathologists in diagnosing patients and subsequently aid clinicians in planning treatments. IHC is used to determine:
  • Where tumors originate
  • What type of treatment should be used
  • Prognosis for patient care
Use of IHC in the laboratory requires specially trained staff, specialized equipment and reagents, and detailed quality control (QC) in order to provide consistent and quality results.
