Common Cytogenetic Abnormalities and their Prognosis

The following are among the more common cytogenetic abnormalities:
Those with a favorable prognosis:
  • hyperdiploidy (51-65 chromosomes in leukemia cells)
  • t(12;21)/TEL-AML1 (ETV6-RUNX1)
Those with an unfavorable prognosis:
  • t(9;22)/BCR-ABL1; (Philadelphia Chromosome positive)
  • hypodiploidy (<46 chromosomes in leukemia cells)
