Using automated systems, including mass spectrometry technology, may result in exposure to dangerous pathogens.
When using mass spectrometry for bacterial identification:
If the manufacturer provides your laboratory with an alternate tube extraction method, the LRN Sentinel Clinical Laboratory Protocols recommend the additional step of filtering the resulting extract using a 0.2 µm (or less) filter. This additional step is intended to reduce the risk of laboratory contamination with viable bacteria and spores.
