The Mucin-Rich Carbohydrate Tumor Markers

Mucins are high molecular weight glycoproteins that are produced by specialized epithelial cells and serve as protectants and lubricants of the epithelial surface.
The most common mucin tumor markers are:
  • CA 125
  • CA 15-3
  • CA 549
  • CA 27.29
The utility of these markers will be discussed in greater detail on the following pages.
