The following pages will contain photographs of various ANA patterns. These photomicrographs were taken of actual patient samples using indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) and the Colorzyme® methods.
As described previously, the Colorzyme® method uses a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) conjugate, and the results are read using brightfield microscopy.
In an effort to standardize the interpretation of ANA patterns

Autoantibody Standardization Committee, a subcommittee of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) Quality Assessment and Standardization Committee in conjunction with the Centers for Disease control and Prevention (CDC), formed the
International Consensus on ANA Patterns (ICAP). This group has issued a standardized set of ANA photographs for nuclear, cytoplasmic, and mitotic HEp-2 cell patterns designated as AC-1 through AC-28.
