Treatment - Group 4—Muscarine

Most patients presenting with muscarine poisoning can be treated without medication. If emesis had already occurred, further emesis and lavage should not be undertaken unless there is suspect of a mixed ingestion. The administration of activated charcoal slurry is not recommended since adsorption to activated charcoal has not been demonstrated. Atropine should be given in severe cholinergic findings such as bradycardia, excessive salivation, and sweating. A few deaths have been reported but, in most cases, recovery is usually within 6 to 24 hours.
