Group 6—Psilocybin (Psilocin and Other Indole Derivatives)

Psilocybin is considered to be a psychoactive toxin. The onset of symptoms is usually within an hour following ingestion and last approximately 4 to 6 hours. They include euphoria, visual and religious hallucinations plus heighten perception. However, some people have experienced fear, agitation, confusion, and schizophrenic-like symptoms. Nausea and vomiting are sometimes associated but usually occur earlier that the psychological effects. The only deaths have been reported in children outside the United States. Psilocubin is the principle toxin found in the genera Panaeolus, Gymnopilus, and Psilocybe.
