Artifacts

As in any specimen, liver biopsies are subject to microtomy artifacts.
Examples of artifacts are:
  • Folds or creases in the tissue section
  • Formalin pigment
  • Section compression
  • Waterbath contaminants
  • Knife lines
  • Chatter from rapid sectioning
  • Chatter from improper rehydration of tissue
