Requirements for Retraining

Recertification
Both the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) require certified urine drug collectors to be recertified every five years. Refresher training includes both the instruction provided in this course and observation by a qualified collector of five mock collections, as discussed on the previous page.
Error Correction Training
If a collector makes a mistake in the collection process that causes a test to be canceled, the collector must then undergo retraining within 30 days of the date that the notification of error was received. The types of errors that cause a test to be canceled are discussed later in the course under the section "Fatal Flaws and Correctable Flaws." If a fatal flaw occurs or a correctable flaw is not corrected, this would indicate the need for retraining to include both instruction and observation of five mock collections.
