Although there is currently no cure for ASD, early intervention treatment services can be initiated from birth to three years of age, thereby improving a child’s development. Early intervention services may include therapy to assist the child in talking, walking, and interacting with others. Typically, treatments can be broken down into the following categories:
- Behavior and communication approaches
- Dietary approaches
- Medication
- Complementary and alternative medicine
Treatments available may include auditory training, discrete trial training, vitamin therapy, anti-yeast therapy, facilitated communication, music therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and sensory integration.
